As the primary race wraps up, endorsements from environmental groups abound. Who made the cut?
With less than two weeks to go before Primary Day, the mayoral hopeful — who leads the large field in recent polls — is facing questions raised by reporters who have examined his financial records, his voting addresses and his late-night comings and goings.
‘The South Bronx needs a mayor and a borough president who will fight for our values and prioritize our needs without excuses or distractions. The South Bronx has power, but we have to use it if it’s to translate into change for families and our community’s future.’
The mayoral hopeful spent a little more than a year as chair of the Civilian Complaint Review Board, where former staffers who spoke with City Limits say she did not improve the dysfunctional agency in tangible ways.
Crime, yet again, led the conversation, with more than 50 mentions during the two-hour debate, according to a City Limits tally, followed by education, which was mentioned just shy of 40 times. Homelessness, a perennial topic, was raised more than 30 times.
Mayoral contenders Curtis Sliwa and Fernando Mateo faced off in their first official debate, obscuring their real policy ideas with stage combat.
It’s not just a question of who’s here and which candidate they favor, but whether they can and will vote.
Art Chang, co-creator of NYC Votes, and Joycelyn Taylor, an entrepreneur from Brooklyn, told City Limits on Monday that they would be cross-endorsing one another in the mayor’s race.
Of the eight top Democratic contenders facing off in the June mayoral primary, six own homes within the five boroughs. Of those, two are landlords. Two other candidates rent their city residences.
Andrew Yang and Eric Adams both asked the Campaign Finance Board to investigate the other, as Scott Stringer alluded to ethical questions that have dogged several candidates.
