Amid deep concerns about the way city housing policies impact different racial groups—and the lack of attention during the official planning process to those effects—some advocates and elected officials are pressing for change.
The city is moving forward with a plan to transfer 62,000 units to Section 8 housing vouchers under the federal Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program but the program has raised numerous concerns. A panel Wednesday brought together advocates, tenant leaders and policy experts to discuss some of them.
The summit will feature Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who on June 26 th won the Democratic primary in New York’s 14th congressional district over a long-serving incumbent, who is of Puerto Rican heritage and is slated to become the youngest woman ever elected to Congress this November.
