Affordable housing downtown follows in Battery Park City’s footsteps
The longtime advocate for low-income New Yorkers with disabilities, and founder of Sinergia, has died. He was 71.
The number of kids testing positive for lead poisoning dropped dramatically over the last five years, according to a city report, but the majority of toddlers are not even getting tested.
Mayor Bloomberg has said he’d like to see some affordable housing built as part of downtown’s redevelopment, but his policy for making that happen may have some holes–particularly since it is so reminiscent of the decades-old Battery Park City deal which produced few affordable apartments.
While the City Council calls for building a massive public market on the old Trade Center site, a similar project has been proposed for Hunts Point, where the area’s best shopping is wholesale, and therefore off limits to local residents
