The Neighborhood Economic Development Advocacy Project, a Manhattan-based nonprofit that fights predatory lending, was honored by the Ford Foundation at a ceremony last week. NEDAP was founded in 1995 to help fight predatory lending in low-income and immigrant communities. NEDAP’s Monifa Akinwole-Bandele, Sarah Ludwig and Pamela Sah were chosen from a pool of over 1,000 applicants for a coveted 2004 Leadership for a Changing World Award—and a $115,000 grant. The foundation highlighted the group’s efforts to improve banking services in city neighborhoods while battling Washington and Albany for stricter regulatory controls. [12/6/04]
