Advocates say they would like to see the timely completion of other major projects in the borough before Mayor de Blasio leaves office, including adding bus lanes on Gun Hill Road and University Avenue, and curbing the number of cars and trucks often blocking the bus lanes on Fordham Road.
Several residents with disabilities say they were sent to buildings that did not meet their needs: Some were transferred to a hotel without a working elevator, and one woman who uses a motorized scooter was moved to a hotel without a working front door or accessible bathroom.
‘New York City officials claim people in “alternatives to solitary” will have at least 10 hours of daily out-of-cell time, with counseling and programming. But their actual plan involves people being locked alone in a cell twenty-three hours a day, everyday, for indefinite periods of time.’
