City Limits reported yesterday on calls by activists in the South Bronx to prevent the renewal of permits that allow two natural-gas power plants to operate in their neighborhood. The opponents say the plants were intended to be temporary, contribute to pollution in the area and warrant a public hearing.
A document shared with us this afternoon indicates there will be no public hearing, and takes issue with the notion that the plants were intended to be “temporary.” It also suggests air quality in the Bronx is improving—bad news for the argument against the plants, perhaps, but good news overall.
