Brooklyn Community Services will kick-off its third annual Spring into Action volunteer initiative, Friday, March 20 through April 7, to rally volunteers for service projects across the borough. This year’s theme, “Step up for ONE Brooklyn Community: Spring into Action,” is part of the ONE Brooklyn Community campaign, which is BCS’s effort to “change the math” for the 25 percent of Brooklynites who live in poverty. With eighteen service projects to choose from, this year’s volunteers can choose how they can each make a difference in the lives of their neighbors throughout Brooklyn’s underserved communities.

Last year’s Spring into Action effort drew over 200 volunteers from across the city. This year BCS hopes to recruit 350 volunteers, to commit a total of 1,000 hours of volunteering. “Our partnership with the communities we serve is strengthened because of the thoughtful work of BCS volunteers,” said Executive Director, Marla Simpson. “Spring into Action is about person-to-person connections with our Brooklyn neighbors. Whether it’s mentoring projects that connect the generations, or financial literacy training to guide families through challenging economic times, or rolling up our sleeves to keep our streets green and clean, these service projects bring all of us one step closer to ONE Brooklyn Community.”
