P.S. 20 is home to both a long-tenured elementary school and a newer middle school. When the latter began to recruit younger students, the partnership between the neighbors was severely strained.
The elementary school and the middle school shared a building without strife. But when one school felt compelled to grow, tensions arose around race, class and space.
