The subways are the MTA’s concern. But MTA buses roll on city streets, and transit groups say Mayor de Blasio could be doing more to clear the way.

These include operators untrained in using their wheelchair equipment, or a lack of enforcement against cars blocking bus stops, which prevent drivers from being able pull up to the curb so disabled riders can board and exit safely.
‘The MTA doesn’t have a funding crisis now,’ says infrastructure expert Nicole Gelinas.
The Council backs a $212 million proposal for half-price MetroCards for poor families. Mayor de Blasio balks at the price-tag. Why not compromise on free transit for low-income community college students?
This existing fare structure leaves many New York City residents who live in areas served by LIRR and Metro North lines unlikely to use the systems.

They don’t sit in traffic. They don’t depend solely on the MTA to get them to work or home. But the people who commute on two wheels have plenty of reason to back a policy of charging cars to use the streets that many drivers think they own.
