On Wednesday afternoon, two buses carrying more than 60 people from city shelter left for the Ramada Inn in Albany, where officials say they’re also nearing capacity. Those who opted to leave include asylum seekers who’d spent weeks in one of the city’s respite centers, where services are limited and future placements are uncertain.

Young people will lose if we hamstring their teachers by letting go of the DESSA.”

At a a recent hearing, members of the NYC Banking Commission heard from advocates who described redlining, predatory and discriminatory lending practices, and substantial investments in the fossil fuel industry by major banks applying to hold tens of millions of city dollars. Yet the commission promptly approved all of the nearly 30 banks that applied.
NYCHA’s target time is 30 days for apartment turnover. But as of April, it took the housing authority an average of 410 days to re-occupy a vacant apartment, up significantly from the start of the year and more than double what it took a year ago.

Sources familiar with the plan say the city is looking to open 950 shelter beds at sites run by dozens of religious organizations in the coming months.
