More than 36,000 NYCHA apartments have either undergone conversion or are in the process of being converted to the RAD-PACT program, which officials say has helped drive billions in needed repairs. But tenants—some of whom will get a chance to vote this year on whether they want their developments to join the initiative—remain distrustful of the change.

NYCHA Residents Rally in Last-Minute Push for Rent Relief Funds From Albany

The rally comes after state lawmakers released budget proposals that include up to $389 million for public housing and Section 8 residents who were left out from the state’s pandemic-era Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). But tenants are pushing for more, pointing to estimates that public housing tenants across New York owe nearly $590 million in rent.

With City Child Care Program to End in June, Asylum-Seeking Parents Worry Over Plans for Summer

Promise NYC was intended to help asylum-seeker families whose immigration status makes them ineligible for other, federally-funded child care assistance. But the program, which offered subsidized care for 600 children, is only slated to continue for the remainder of the school year. “I really don’t know what I’m going to do,” said one participant with a 7-month-old son.

The Bronx Metro-North rezoning is among the first initiated by the city since Mayor Adams took office, and will look to spur development of 6,000 homes around future train stations in Morris Park and Parkchester. The plan is in line with Gov. Kathy Hochul’s strategy to increase housing statewide, with an emphasis on building denser in “transit-oriented” communities.

Courts Dismissed 121K ‘Dead’ Eviction Cases in NYC. What Does it Mean?

The process, called an administrative dismissal, is enshrined in state law. The Office of Court Administration wiped out a category of older eviction cases that property owners started before the end of 2020 seeking to recover unpaid rent, in which tenants never filed a response and the landlords took no further action.
