My wife and I are alarmingly reliable voters. Since moving back to New York in August 1999, we’ve voted in every primary, charter revision referendum, DA’s race, special election and general, except for the fall 2001 races, when we were in London.
But this morning, we were not in the book of registered voters for the election district covering our house.
We were told by the inspectors on site that, although only 13 people had successfully voted on the machines so far this morning, several others had had to fill out affidavits.
It was a little unsettling, although we were assured that our vote counted. On a practical level, if there are lots of affidavit ballots to count, I wonder if there’ll be a drawn out conclusion to today’s vote.
