–Fotografiska, the world-renowned center for contemporary photography in Stockholm, Sweden, unveils plans for its first global location in Flatiron–

The Flatiron/23^rd Street Partnership Business Improvement District (BID) celebrated 12 years of service at its Annual Meeting & Community Reception on Wednesday, June 6 by noting the transformation of the neighborhood into a destination for property owners, businesses, residents, and visitors from around the globe.

“Many of you here tonight deserve our thanks for your commitment to making this a strong, vibrant neighborhood,” said Flatiron/23^rd Street Partnership Executive Director Jennifer Brown, highlighting the diversity of sectors that continues to keep the district on the cutting-edge of innovation.

The event featured a presentation by Geoffrey Newman, General Partner and Owner, of Fotografiska, the world’s leading meeting place dedicated to contemporary photography in Stockholm, Sweden. Mr. Newman discussed plans for its first global location in the Flatiron District at 281 Park Avenue South. Fotografiska New York will be hosting events and open houses leading up to their grand opening in Spring 2019.

The annual meeting, which drew nearly 200 attendees, featured remarks from Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, New York City Councilmember Carlina Rivera, and NYPD 13^th Precinct Commanding Officer, Deputy Inspector Steven M. Hellman.

The BID elected members to its Board of Directors, approved the FY 2019 budget, and presented a series of awards. BID Board Chair Gregg Schenker and Jennifer Brown presented the annual Partnership Award to the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath), and the Chairman’s Award to Michael Cohen of Colliers International.

Outstanding Service Awards were presented to Matar Ndiaye, Ousmane Sarr, and to Scott Kimmins, who serves as Flatiron/23^rd Street Partnership’s Director of Operations. Jennifer Brown, in surprising Kimmins with the award, said, “He spends much of his day in the field, you can see him out there coordinating and communicating with such a broad array of people… He does this with finesse and the utmost commitment to our mission, which, simply put, is to make this a great place to work, live, and visit.”

Additionally, the BID presented Greening the District Awards to 225 Fifth Avenue Condominium, ATCO, Con Edison, Meringoff Properties, Rockrose Development Corp., Touro College/NYSCAS, Tiffany & Co., and The NoMad Hotel for their generous support in beautifying Flatiron’s streetscape.

The program was followed by a cocktail reception catered by local favorite Merakia on the rooftop of 200 Fifth Avenue.
